Statewide property tax levies for 2013 are proposed to increase by an average of 2.3 percent
St. Paul, Minn.Property tax levies are proposed to increase an average of 2.3 percent statewide if proposed local tax levies are adopted by local governments later this year.
The increase is based on maximum levy amounts proposed by local governments in advance of annual Truth-in-Taxation meetings, which began in late November. Final levies will be determined following these meetings, which are required for cities with populations over 500, counties, school districts, regional library authorities, and metropolitan taxing districts. The time and location of the meetings can be found on property owners’ Truth-in-Taxation notice.
If the proposed levies are approved, property tax levies will increase in 2013 by $187 million statewide.
To date, levy referenda for operations or capital projects were held by 60 of Minnesota’s school districts, many to renew existing levies that are scheduled to expire. Statewide, 43 of the 60 at least partially passed. The results of these referenda are included in the data summarized here, but their impact is not included on the Truth-in-Taxation notices that counties mailed to taxpayers in November.
Proposed levy information for local governments is available on the Department of Revenue Property Tax Reports and Data website.

There ain't no holding us back!Sharon's Disclaimer Working on Quiet Titles etc. Sharon,

Like us, you’re probably concerned about the ongoing debate over taxes and big government spending, and with good reason. Every single taxpayer in the country is at risk, with nearly $500 billion in new taxes set to take effect at the start of 2013. At the same time, our government continues to spend more than we bring in and is putting the nation further in debt., it seems some politicians in Washington are determined to wish us a Merry Taxmas this December, but there’s something you can do about it!
AFP is excited to announce the launch of a funny, witty, new website that puts everything in perspective:

Here you can see our Naughty or Nice list of legislators, send them a special message on Twitter, and even share a humorous e-card with your friends!
Check it out right now and let us know what you think. Visit to have some fun and send a message to Washington that you’re not happy about the Merry Taxmas they’re cooking up for us.
In Liberty,
Tim Phillips
